  • Go over 25 MB and Gmail quietly swaps your attachment for a Google Drive link.
  • Mail is encoded in transit, which inflates it by about a third. If your recipient's server is strict, aim for 18 MB.

Each limit is checked by a person against the service’s own help pages, and the date is shown on its card. We count 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes, the stricter reading, so a file that fits here fits there. Spotted a change? Email [email protected].

Questions

What is the attachment limit for Gmail?

25 MB for all attachments on one email combined. Anything bigger is replaced with a Google Drive link.

How big can a video be on WhatsApp?

16 MB when sent as a video. As a Document it can be up to 2 GB, but it arrives without a preview.

What is Discord’s file size limit in 2026?

20 MB per file on free accounts, 50 MB with Nitro Basic and 500 MB with Nitro.

Why do you count 1 MB as 1,000,000 bytes?

It is the stricter reading. Some services count 1 MB as 1,048,576 bytes, so a file that fits our number fits theirs either way.
