Trim an audio file
Drag the handles to the part you want and save it. In fast mode the original audio data is copied, so nothing gets a second round of compression.

Bytes of your files sent anywhere: 0 B · nothing leaves this tab
Every request this page makes is listed as it happens. You’ll see our own code loading, and for some formats a codec engine, but never your file going out.
- Waiting for network activity…
Check it yourself: open your browser’s developer tools on the Network tab, or turn off Wi-Fi once the page has loaded. The tools keep working.
How to use it
- 01
Add your file
Drop in an MP3, WAV, M4A, FLAC or Opus file. It plays right here.
- 02
Check the settings
Drag the handles, or type the start and end in seconds for an exact cut.
- 03
Save the result
Press trim and save the piece you kept. The original file isn’t changed.
Why it doesn’t upload
Voice notes, interviews and rough mixes are private. Trimming happens in this tab, so the recording never goes to a server — and huge files trim in a second because there is nothing to upload.
How to check for yourselfWorth knowing
- Fast mode cuts at the nearest frame boundary, so the start can be a fraction of a second early. Turn on Exact cut when the timing has to be precise.
- Exact cut re-encodes the audio, which loses a little quality in lossy formats.
- This keeps one section. To cut a piece out of the middle, trim twice and join the parts with the Merge Audio tool that’s on the way.
- Formats the browser can’t play (APE, WMA, AMR…) can still be trimmed by typing times; they use the FFmpeg engine.
Questions
How do I cut an MP3 without losing quality?
Leave Exact cut off. The compressed audio between your two points is copied straight into the new file, so it is bit-for-bit identical to the original in that section.
Why does my trimmed file start slightly early?
Audio can only be copied losslessly at frame boundaries, which are a fraction of a second apart. Turn on Exact cut for a sample-accurate start.
Can I trim a song to just the part I want?
Yes — drag the handles over the waveform to the section you want and save. On MP3 and M4A the audio between the handles is copied rather than re-encoded, so the excerpt sounds exactly like the original.
Can I trim a ringtone to 30 seconds?
Yes. Set the start and end 30 seconds apart, and choose M4A for an iPhone ringtone or MP3 for Android.
Can I trim video files too?
Yes, with Trim Video — same controls, with a filmstrip instead of a waveform.
