Resize a video
Change a video’s resolution to 1080p, 720p, 480p or smaller. The shape is kept, so nothing is stretched or cropped — and fewer pixels means a much smaller file.
Fit Meter
A 1920 × 1080 video set to 1280 becomes 1280 × 720. The shape is kept, so nothing is stretched or cropped.

Bytes of your files sent anywhere: 0 B · nothing leaves this tab
Every request this page makes is listed as it happens. You’ll see our own code loading, and for some formats a codec engine, but never your file going out.
- Waiting for network activity…
Check it yourself: open your browser’s developer tools on the Network tab, or turn off Wi-Fi once the page has loaded. The tools keep working.
How to use it
- 01
Add your files
Drop in your videos — phone recordings, screen captures or 4K footage.
- 02
Check the settings
Pick the longest side you want. 1280 px gives 720p from any 16:9 video; the height follows automatically.
- 03
Save the result
Press resize. Your device’s own video encoder does the work, so it is quick and nothing is uploaded.
Why it doesn’t upload
Uploading a 4K video to have it shrunk takes far longer than the shrinking does. Your browser can decode and re-encode it with the hardware already in your device.
How to check for yourselfWorth knowing
- Resizing always re-encodes the picture, so a little detail is lost. High quality keeps that invisible.
- Making a video bigger than it was recorded won’t add detail; it just makes a softer, larger file.
- Only the first video and audio track are kept.
- Older formats such as AVI and WMV use the FFmpeg engine, a one-time 31 MB download, and are slower.
Questions
How do I make a video 720p?
Choose 720p — 1280 px. A 1920 × 1080 video becomes 1280 × 720, and a vertical 1080 × 1920 phone video becomes 720 × 1280.
How much smaller will the file be?
Halving the width and height cuts the pixel count to a quarter, and the file usually lands somewhere between a third and a quarter of the original. To hit an exact size instead, use Compress Video.
How do I change a video’s dimensions?
Pick a resolution from the list, or type a longest side of your own. The other dimension follows so the picture keeps its shape, and the tool says what the new frame size will be before you save.
Will resizing crop or stretch my video?
Neither. The shape is kept exactly, and the size you pick is the longest side, so portrait videos stay portrait.
What if I need exact pixels, like 1080 × 1080?
This tool scales to a longest side rather than an exact box. A crop tool for exact frames is on the way; meanwhile upload limits lists the sizes each platform wants.
