How do I find out what a file really is?
Use Identify a File. It reads the bytes every format starts or ends with, so it tells you what the file is whatever its name says, and gives you a correctly named copy when the extension is wrong or missing.
How can I tell whether two images are the same?
Compare Two Images checks whether the files are identical, then whether every pixel matches, and if not, measures how similar they look and maps exactly where they differ.
Why are some tools marked “Soon”?
They are listed without a link until they actually work. A page that looks like a tool and does nothing wastes your time, so we would rather show you what is coming than pretend.
What can I use for the rest in the meantime?
The common fixes cover many of the problems these tools are meant to answer, using the converters and cleaners that already work.
